Cleveredge offers a rich Specials Program designed to support whole-child development through creativity, movement, science, and real-world exploration. Each experience is intentionally selected to enhance academic learning and provide students with opportunities to discover new interests and talents.

Signature specials
Two experiences run throughout the year, each led by a dedicated partner.
Dance & Theatre
Students participate in weekly performing arts classes led by Ignite Dance Company. Through dance, theatre games, choreography, and expressive movement, students build confidence, coordination, teamwork, and creativity.
STEM Innovation Lab
Club Invention leads our STEM program through hands-on invention modules, including Castles, Catapults & Coats of Arms™ and the Endangered Species Innovation Lab. Students explore engineering, environmental science, physics, and creativity through immersive, story-based challenges.
Innovation modules
Castles, Catapults & Coats of Arms™
Students investigate scientific principles through medieval history. They take on roles such as lords, ladies, knights, and craftspeople while building catapults, shields, simple machines, and castle structures. This module strengthens design thinking, force and motion understanding, teamwork, and empathy.
Endangered Species Innovation Lab
Students become environmental problem-solvers as they design inventions, habitats, and conservation tools to help protect endangered animals. This module builds awareness of ecosystems, biodiversity, and engineering design.
Science beyond the classroom
Visiting scientists and museum experiences bring real laboratories into reach.
Mad Science Visits
Mad Science brings high-energy demonstrations and hands-on experiments to Cleveredge throughout the school year, introducing students to chemistry, physics, electricity, air pressure, and more.
Kaleideum STEM Field Experiences
Students participate in museum-based STEM learning at Kaleideum, including maker-space engineering, robotics demonstrations, science exhibits, and planetarium exploration.
Library & Literacy Enrichment
Students engage in weekly literacy enrichment through read-alouds, book studies, vocabulary exploration, research skills, and independent reading. This special supports fluency, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.
PE & Movement Specials
A dynamic rotation of movement-based experiences keeps students active, healthy, and excited to learn.
Park Fitness Circuits
Students participate in relay races, obstacle courses, jump rope, soccer drills, and nature walks.
Jump Parks
High-energy PE days include trampolines, ninja courses, dodgeball, and foam pits.
Climbing Gym Days
Students build strength, coordination, confidence, and problem-solving skills through climbing challenges.
Roller Skating PE
Roller skating days support balance, cardio, coordination, and fun.
Bike & Wheels Day
Students bring bikes, scooters, or skates for movement, endurance, and safety skill development.
Sports Rotation
Students learn fundamentals of basketball, volleyball, soccer, kickball, and flag football.
Field Trips & Enrichment
Cleveredge students participate in monthly field trips that connect directly to academic units and specials. These experiences support hands-on exploration, social development, and meaningful connections to science, history, and the arts. Destinations are flexible and announced throughout the year.
Old Salem Museums & Gardens
Cleveredge is partnering with Old Salem Museums & Gardens to bring living history to our students. Right here in Winston-Salem, students walk through a restored Moravian settlement, watch craftspeople at work in the blacksmith, printer, and toy shops, and explore the heritage gardens. These visits connect directly to our social studies and science units, giving students a tangible sense of how people lived, worked, and built communities in early North Carolina.
Coop & Creek Farm
Students visit Coop & Creek Farm to explore gardening, composting, chicken care, and seasonal planting. Time in the gardens and with the animals helps students understand ecosystems, food cycles, sustainability, and responsible stewardship.
Overnight Trip · Parents Invited
Wilmington, NC
Our signature overnight field trip takes students — and their parents — to Wilmington, North Carolina for a full coastal learning experience. Students explore the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Battleship North Carolina, Wrightsville Beach ecosystems, coastal wildlife, marine science labs, and local history.
This overnight experience builds independence, teamwork, curiosity, and unforgettable family memories.
